Thank you to all that supported the bond issue and voted our students and our schools! We are SO excited for our new North High School building, including brand new Art rooms where ceilings don't leak onto our supplies or artwork! :>

So, I have just recently joined "Artsonia", an on-line Art museum for displaying student artwork and am pretty excited about the whole thing!. Artsonia is actually known as "the World's Largest Student Art Museum", yet it's so much more than that! It's a free, safe, educational program for students and families, as well as a comprehensive resource for art educators."
Not only can you view what my amazing Art students are creating in class, you can post comments, provide positive feedback, and also purchase custom order gift items displaying the artwork of your choice. If any items are purchased, Artsonia donates 20% of the order back to North's Art program, providing me with the funds to 1) purchase materials and tools outside our normal budget and to 2),hopefully, cover the cost of busing the students to a field trip to the Cleveland Museum of Art. Please click on the Artsoina logo below to connect with North's Artsonia site and to see what my very talented students are creating.
North students from my Art II, Art III, Art IV and Ceramics I classes had work (30+ pieces!) on display at this year's Best of the Best in Art and Design, high school student art show at VMCAD in Lakewood. Their amazing work helped fill and beautify the walls of the gallery and all should be very proud of their work and accomplishments.. Awards were announced at Friday night's reception, which included 3rd place/$100 cash award to Art III student Alicia Telzerow's felted wool fiber landscape and a Rising Star award/$10,000 institutional grant to Art III student Lauren Forney for her mixed media, artist manifesto piece. Below are some photos taken at the reception. Thanks to all the students, parents, friends and families that made the trek to the west side to attend this event! SO proud of ALL of my talented Art rock stars!
Today, Art III & IV students had the invaluable opportunity to visit the world famous Cleveland Museum of Art. Students experienced a guided tour with a great docent and then had time to complete an art teacher created scavenger hunt that was meant to take them to all corners of the museum. (;>) I had a great time watching my students hold their own while discussing pieces with the docent, enjoying some of the amazing pieces we had time to visit, including the Senufo exhibit. CMA is such an amazing space, I only wish that we had more time to explore! I hope that my student found the field trip to be a valuable experience and that they will travel back to the museum to further explore on their own sometime soon.
Student artists, parents, families, art teachers, administrators and friends gathered on Wednesday, 3/25/15, as the District held its 2nd annual "Art Splash" show reception..
Each art teacher in the District, elementary through high school, submitted two pieces of student artwork to be displayed at the Board of Education building. The pieces will be on exhibit for an entire year. The BOE building is a beautiful structure to begin with although, in my humble opinion, it's attractiveness increases tenfold when the walls are covered with the creative artwork of our WE students. Thanks to all that came out to celebrate and support our talented student artists! Special congratulations to NHS students Amber and Travis on having their work celebrated! (Thanks for making time to attend despite having track practice, soccer practice and prom fashion show rehearsals! You two are the best! :) So very proud of my North High Art student SUPERSTARS! Congrats to all of the awesome artists honored at today's 2015 Lake/Geauga Co. awards ceremony and for having work accepted into this juried show! Check out just a few photos of my students, the ones I could find after the ceremony, in the huge crowd of supportive families and friends. All so talented and, seriously, could they be more cute!???
Thanks to all who volunteered both their time and creativity to this week's festivities. Whether helping paint murals for the Art room doors, decorating and cutting pieces or selling temporary tattoos, your help was very much appreciated! Awesome work everybody!
Finally set up a Twitter account for my classes! Follow me @We_CreateArt.
Congratulations to Art III student Alex Zabiegala! Alex was this year's grand prize winner of the annunal Lake County Clean and Green Logo contest. This is an annual event that encourages residents to help clean and green their neighborhoods. Through their Art classes, all Lake County youth were invited to enter the annual recycling and anti-litter themed logo contest. Alex's drawing will be used as the logo for all 2014 Clean and Green promotional materials and will also be displayed on the wall at the Lake County Administration Building in Painesville. She and her family, along with the winners in the Middle and Elementary Divisions, were invited to a Lake County Commissioner's meeting where they received a recycled glass trophy and a mounted poster of their design. Great work, Alex!!! Despite numerous snow days this quarter, Art II students were finally able to finish their graphite value studies of the still life set ups. They worked so diligently to capture accurate shapes, proportions and to develop those values. Check out just a few of the many great pieces created. Good work everybody! Alexis R. Hallie G.
